Warrior Hands by jyokota

Warrior Hands

I first heard about these life-sized warriors that comprise an entire army that had been created by Emperor Qin Shi Huang during a dynasty more than 2000 years ago, buried in his tomb, and discovered by a farmer when digging his well in 1974. A few were taken on tour to raise money for restoring them, and I'm fairly certain this was one of the ones I saw in 1980 in the Ft Worth Kimball Museum.

It was crowded, I couldn't get back far enough, these warriors were in glass cases - so I focused on the hands. I thought about the graceful positioning of the hands, the elegant posture, and yet -- they are warrior hands.

As you know, this is one of my all time favorites...such a contrast of the proud and assertive warrior and the calm, sensitive hands. Love it!

Amazing history ... Something is old in NZ when it is over 200 years...

What an amazing story and an incredibly huge task to reconstruct them all. A very moving image.

This boggles my mind. His hands, his armor and the folds of his sleeves. I got to see them in Indianapolis, and the more I learn about their history, it's just fascinating.

Wonderful textures and the hands seem so calming for someone who was once such a proud warrior - Fav

Fantastic photo. The details are so well captured. Interesting, the one finger not curved around the wrist like the others.
