I first heard about these life-sized warriors that comprise an entire army that had been created by Emperor Qin Shi Huang during a dynasty more than 2000 years ago, buried in his tomb, and discovered by a farmer when digging his well in 1974. A few were taken on tour to raise money for restoring them, and I'm fairly certain this was one of the ones I saw in 1980 in the Ft Worth Kimball Museum.
It was crowded, I couldn't get back far enough, these warriors were in glass cases - so I focused on the hands. I thought about the graceful positioning of the hands, the elegant posture, and yet -- they are warrior hands.
This boggles my mind. His hands, his armor and the folds of his sleeves. I got to see them in Indianapolis, and the more I learn about their history, it's just fascinating.
