We photographed around this lake for awhile, but it wasn't until we were back at the car and I saw Páll's capture of the reflections that I knew I needed to learn how to get below the ice. My attempt here.
I love the abstract feel to this!! And that both of us ended up "seeing" the beauty of this spot not simply in the beautiful colors, but in the shapes, textures, and tones that made it so special.
@golftragic At this location there was a thin strip of ice in the distance but closer there was no Ice. I quickly saw that I needed to get all the way down to the water level with my camera to make the ice strip as narrow as possible and using the body of water in front of me as a mirror. It is good to have a camera with an articulating screen on the back to see this (Sony a7r2).
@palljokull Thank you for that information, Páll. Very interesting. We don't get ice on water where I love (southeastern Australia) but may well travel to somewhere that does. Completely agree with your comment about articulating screens, I have a Fuji X-T1 and love it.
That is quite a beautiful location. I followed your link to see how the shot was made. Your photo more than does the location justice. It seems quite true to the start beauty of the locale.
