Before three months ago, I had never seen my own photography in print, on paper. But having taken my first photography class, I learned to print and now am fascinated by how your choice of paper interacts with the image. In the most recent class, we painted with acrylics on textured paper. Most were solid pages, but here, I had accidentally used a brush with "stainless" paint still embedded deep within it while I was painting iridescent pearl for the background. It was so unevenly silvered that I added some flat beige and ended up liking how the textures added dimension to this otherwise straightforward patterned image. Around the border you can see the colors and brush strokes.
The thing I tell people is they usually have to lighten their photos because on paper there is no light coming through the photo. So I can imagine how it reacts with colors etc on the paper.
