not sure how many are noise!!
trying to get better at night shots, definitely an improvement on the last outing, at least it seems to be in focus. but there is so much to know about the processing too. I got the southern cross in at the top there. there was a beautiful crescent moon hanging over the sea, but i think I was pushing it with the 30 second exposures and it was always blurry. either that or i am going blind...
I watched a thing on Youtube It said, To divide 500 by the focal length. This will let you know how long you can leave the shutter open before you start to get star trails. I have been doing my processing in lightroom and been not sharpening and been pulling down the detail. For what ever reason when I have it looking all blurry(or with a lot less stars) and send it from develop to library it adds stars back to the photo. So I sent my photo to photoshop were I don't know what I am doing. But then went and worked on it again in lightroom, By sending it out and back it reset the sliders and when I made it blurry and sent it back into the library Not so many pop up. I hope this helps or someone else has some idea what to do because mine looked like that a month ago when looking back......... Not a easy shot or not easy processing maybe both. For me I am still looking for away to do this kind of shot better. Maybe looking to hard.
@wildernesswillie 500 /18 =31. something, so 30 secs should be aroundabout right for me then. not following you on the other stuff though dude sorry, I just fiddle till it looks ok but there are so many ways to do so when you start with a RAW file, maybe @isaactrippet can comment. I was trying ettr at one point before it got too dark, thinking the residual daylight might be counteracted so I could see stars above the horizon, but not sure I did the right thing in processing because I didnt get more stars!
@kali66 Out of the city....you mean there are places beyond the city walls......fantasy and superstition. I will hear non of it. I have no idea what ETTR is. Sounds far too complicated.
Cool image. I can see the southern cross! I must try shooting the night sky as the weather gets warmer. I haven't tried star trails yet. Love your title. Very apt.
@isaactrippet My last one was set at
Exposure:
30 sec (30/1)
Aperture:
f/3.5
ISO Speed:
1000
Focal Length:
10 mm
Then try to get rid of stars or noise, what ever it is in light room ... I think this kind of shot is the hardest. Because your getting a photo of something the eye can not see.
Oh I like this. Reminds me of last week when I lay on my back on a Spanish balcony in the middle of nowhere, in total darkness, seeing so many stars and a lot of shooting ones. Never seen so many white dots in my life before. Now I'm back in the 'big' city where we can spot 2 stars at most...
