Nice night shot! I noticed the Exif says focal length is 0mm, is this due to editing? I found someplace there is a star shooting rule of 500/400 to determine the exposure so stars will be crisp (dots) versus showing trails. The astrophotographers use this rule. Take the size of the wide open focal length of your lens and then divide 500 and also 400. The result is how many seconds you should hold open the shutter. Example - 24mm lens at f1.4 to f/4 gives roughly 21 to 15 sec of shutter speed. This only works within a spread of ISO settings of course and how dark your sky appears. I hate noise too, so usually around 800 to 1600 ISO. I find as I get above 6400 it gets too noisy. I must get to your part of the world at some point!
Great shot Kali, I need to get out there in a non-artificial light place and try my hand on a starry sky... @mikegifford thank you for the tips!! I need to try...
@kali66 thank you, so interesting!!! I'm fascinated by over exposing the photo (you can barely see any stars, let alone the milky way)... I'm very bad about histograms etc. but I need to practice practice practice...
This photo reminds me of...quiet, crickets chirping, a lone wolf howling in the distance and the whole bit. But I also feel as if a UFO could come gliding over the hill at any moment!
