dots and dashes

i have decided to go with the 35mm lens for the sooc jpeg challenge, as Richard is using for his oocooloy thingy , I need practise with this lens because I find it hard to compose with and the min focal distance of 70cm is frustrating for me! hmmm it shows, i read that the 50mm is closest to how your eye sees things and the 35mm widens it so things look smaller than through your eyes, maybe that is the trouble??
I know what you mean with 35 and also 50mm - my eyesight doesn't help either hahaha

oh - I love the subtlety of this image

this is gorgeous. Just goes to show that SOOC is just another way to express yourself.... (just saying to those who suggest it is mere laziness!!)

@brigette it feels like harder work actually, it matters what you do! you cant fix it later if its a bit wrong like

@annied thx annie, yes the old eyesight thing is a bit of a worry when trying to use manual primes!

@kali66 exactly! I just don't the judgemental stance some people take on the issue!! This reminds me of a movie still... kind of bleak, but hopeful, serene and still beautiful

@brigette thanks that is a lovely assessment. there is something of a relax about it thing that happens with these lenses sooc, take it as you find it and dont worry, ... which contradicts what i said before but both are true somehow!!

I like the serene feel of this - I do try very hard to use sooc as much as possible.
But we are finding that when we submit pics to the camera club comps -, those that the judges are picking have had so much work done to them it is not a photograph anymore it is artwork - One recently was chosen as best in show and she had used 14 images to construct her picture - how can that be compared to "normal photography"
Sorry Rant over :-)

@sweetsue53 haha i remember such discussions at photoclub, I think their gripe there though was that judges didnt like overly processed or 'creative' images that werent perfectly focused or using rule of thirds and such.the perception was some of the judges were a bit fuddy duddy, times are changing and perhaps there needs to be a few more categories nowadays :)

@kali66 - Yes you could be right - I was brought up with chemical photography - processed our own B&W film & Slides - yes we could be creative then as well but not to the extremes there seem to be at the moment
It would be a good move to create additional categories :-)

@sweetsue53 @kali66 @brigette Agree with this. I've nothing against post processing but there comes a point when to my mind it's pretty much a different genre and could use a different name, e.g. digital imaging or digital design or something.

@kali66 I'll be interested to see what you make of the lens. I've been using that focal length all year. I struggle with deploying it for close-ups. I think its benefit is that it captures the environment so you need to find a close-up subject where showing the context is valuable.

@jasperc good thinking, i will have a fun month with it. just found out how to change up the picture modes in my camera for contrast , saturation filters etc. so that will be an education, i rarely go into the menus! the camera has been on a faithful setting which i thought meant just as is, but says dull and subdued lol, at least it suited the day. helps to read the manual every now and then!

I think it is beautiful!

@bokehdot thankyou :)

Pretty! Spring is my favorite season.

I like the gentle roughness of this. Fav! I might try a 35mm lens. I don't believe my camera will give a true square format but if I nix the post stuff and go SOOC I know that I will be challenging my composition skills, just like the old days of photography class before digital.

@joysabin i'll be watching :)

beautiful!

a bit dreamy .... I like the concept of posting SOOC if only to think more carefully about composition and set up but then I would have to read the manual
