valma's window

Liz challenged me to use prints of photographs to make a collage /add artwork to and then photograph the result . I dont actually make darkroom prints but i used my laser printer to print out two photos and put this together.
This is an image i regret not taking, I am always too shy with people, and forget that the moment is all there is, there is no putting off to another time. Valma lived in her house for 60 years with her husband Stan, but they recently moved into a pensioner flat, I was always taken with the way she kept her street-facing windows, she opened the curtains each morning and there was a bunch of plastic flowers on the sill. Before the new owners finally removed her curtains I went and took a shot and here i have added a posy and added Valma from an older photo. I regret not taking photos of her and her husband in their home surrounded by the memorabilia of a lifetime, their new place is sparse and doesn't have the same feel to it, I must take some film shots of the two of them next time I visit, like i have been meaning to for a long while, they are in their late 80s now.

This is so touching. Very neat challenge. You've fulfilled it quite nicely!

I like what you have done here to create an image and memory of a time and place passed by.

VML how you've captured/ recreated Valma's view and something pleasurable for passersby to see. I imagine Valma and Mr V will be delighted with this tribute.

I love that you were able to recreate an unphotographed moment in this exercise. It makes for a very special image.

This picture so much more meaningful, and moving, upon reading your script. A great reminder to take opportunities whilst we can. What a wonderful response to a challenging challenge.

Hello Kali, thank you for my challenge. I have enjoyed looking through some of your amazing project - you have many fantastic images here. For your challenge this week - take the word "Change" and shoot an image which portrays this for you in any way that you wish and find pleasing. Enjoy! Anne

Hi Kali. what a splendid response to the challenge. I love the story behind it too. Its so true too I think that we all hold back sometimes and tell ourselves we will get the shot later. This is a great reminder to act now. However, the waiting has resulted in a wonderful collage - I like how the shadows fall from the flowers and Velma and integrate them into the shot.
