here is the injured little blue penguin we found . it had lost an eye and had its skull crushed, and was acting a little braindamaged.. as they are visual feeders there wasnt much hope for it, and it died in the night, was nice to see though.
@fayefaye@joysabin@chloette we called the local conservation people but they said to let nature take its course...we took it home so it didnt get more injured but it died in the night. they are very susceptible to dogs and also being run over when they cross the highway north of here to nest in the bush. or under peoples houses. so a fence has been built for a long tract of the coastline. i have seen one healthy one in the night on the beach, surprised me, they run the gauntless to and from the sea at dawn and dusk . never usually see them in the middle of the day here is an information page with a couple of videos http://www.bluepenguin.org.nz/about-blue-penguins/
Once I rescued a baby owl landed on my windowsill. Quite an adventure for my daughte4 (she was 4 or 5). Yes nature must take its course but what the heck
poor little fella! My friend who lives in Chile once made the mistake of taking a penguin inside her house. She said in the middle of the night the penguin pooped all over the place and she woke up to the worst stink ever. She said her house smelled for months after. She will never take a penguin indoors again, but just the other day, she posted an owl perched on her shower curtain, so I don't know why she thinks an owl will be any better. She's a biologist and thinks that she is some animal whisperer.
