Random question ..where does NZ get their avocados from...and are they pricey? Most all our avocados here come from California and only within the last couple of years I noticed that the price on them has dropped significantly. Used to be that avocados were almost $2 a pop, now I can get 4 for that same price.
@blueberry1222 wow i am jealous, Avocados grow in northern parts of New Zealand, they need a frost-free climate, Where i live i can only buy them in the supermarket and because they have become a trendy food item the prices have risen significantly, they were $6 .99 each in recent months! and of course they didnt fly off the shelves at that price and mostly rotted, made me so angry. especially when i saw a photo of NZ avocados being sold in Perth Australia for $1.99 !!! they are coming down a bit now as the season starts 'only' $3.50 each! My son took a trip north recently to where they grow and bought a boxful home, its been nice. I have a seedling tree that is doing quite well, we dont get much frost in recent years, but they take years to fruit, i need to do some grafting on it i think
@kali66 Wow, to all that! I'll be curious to learn if your avocado tree takes. They sell those trees here, too, but Phoenix is just too far hot that it sucks the trees dry. Also, we do get the occasional freeze in winter, which makes growing certain things frustrating! I think because Arizona is right on top of Mexico that we get them so dirt cheap. I love throwing avocados in juices.
