I imagine moa babies wouldn't have looked too much different to these, not the most photogenic birds. This family has three babies, they were huddling together in the sun, I could get as close as a couple of metres because their parents are so used to us they didn't bother to sound the alarm unless I moved a little too quickly. their feathers are just starting to come in so they are between little baby fluff balls and ungainly youths. They are flightless and can become a menace in the garden if they learn bad habits., very inquisitive and such strong beaks for digging around.
wow, this is very special, it is New Zealand native bird. Are you located in New Zealand? Your comment on Dean in my site sounds like that you are. The Weka baby is so cute!
