@christinav@pamknowler What with the horrendous mismanagement of our west coast fisheries by our government, and the severe overfishing by foreign fishing trawlers, and the over-logging of our forests, it has been made more and more difficult for all animals who depend on our salmon. I have seen severe deterioration in the 50 years since I was a kid and fished for our food. :(
The safety precautions with grizzlies is mainly extreme caution. At this time of year, they are very preoccupied with fishing, in preparation for hibernation (although, our winters here are not severe enough for true hibernation - more of a torpor). We were picked up at the dock by a First Nations member who loaded us into a small truck and ferried us to different spots up the river. They have built reinforced "tree houses" and once our guide says it is safe, we move quickly from the truck to the gated tree house. I honestly do not believe it would hold out an angry boar grizzly, but then, actual attacks are very rare.
