In our little town of four thousand souls or so, we rely on each other well beyond our means. Diane Nugent embodied that with everything in her. After working her day job, she answered the call for a fire on the dirt road next to mine. After another three and a half hours or so of tending to the firefighters and caring for the injured, she went home, tired. Bone tired, I figure. She started her generator, cause the power was out in our neck of the woods, but forgot to vent. She succumbed to the fumes and that is a direct result of having given every ounce of her soul to the community.
A Great good group of individuals celebrate the lives of Diane and people just like her across the country. They pedal from Boston to West Virginia; Through Kentucky, and New Orleans; Across Colorado and California, wearing tags that carry the names of those that gave the full measure. These Emergency Medical Service People are more than a ride to the hospital. They are our neighbors who, sometimes, we only meet when they are saving our lives, or holding our hands when the very worst happens. They deserve to be recognized, as they recognize those that have gone before. Thank you, Diane. Thank you, Tony. Thank you Jae @lifepause, Thank you Muddy Angels http://www.muddyangels.com/
People don't hear enough about the effort and risks that our First Responders face each and everyday. They are true heroes that never get enough recognition or thanks. As a retired first responder I thank you for posting this shot and including the story. Fav!
a very nice way for you to bring the dedication of these special people to the attention of others. I very much appreciate those who do this work. I am sorry that such a good soul like Diane passed away in such and unfortunate circumstance. Prayers for her family and all of those whose lives she touched. Prayers also for the safety of the Muddy Angels as they take their message to the roads across the country!
What a fantastic tribute. As a first responder (firefighter), I see first hand the great work of paramedics. They are always there looking after us when we have been in fighting fires and we are always so grateful to see them turn up on EMR calls. I have been stationed with them many times wich makes you further appreciate what they do. So well done it is a great tribute to the fallen
@karlow75 Agreed, Kane. Thank you! And for your service. You are always in my heart having seen your pictures and read your words. Take care and I appreciate your contribution here.
Fantastic tribute. My daughter is a volunteer Firefighter in Australia, My hat is off to this brave lady and all those others. And to the Muddy Angels, good luck and stay safe.
Thanks again, Jackie @jackies365 And, Joe @thirdjoe and Kane @karlow75, Jae @lifepause is right there with you, having given the better part of her life to community service as an EMT, Community Organizer and integral part of the creation of the Muddy Angels and one of the founding leaders of the Medical Reserve Corps (She wouldn't say it, so I did)
A great tribute Kevin and such a moving story. I am always in awe of these wonderful people who spend their lives helping others often with no recognition! Wishing the Muddy Angels good luck and stay safe!
a beautiful tribute
I always try to contribute to and be thankful for the volunteers and career personnel who put their lives on the line to keep us safe
In Australia it is the SES - the volunteer fire fighters - the Police - the Fire Brigade ...........etc
I'm so sorry to learn of Diane's passing after having valiantly and selflessly fighting to save the lives and possessions of others. How sad but what a beautiful way for her to be remembered - both in your tribute and via this ride. Hats off and hearts out to all those who are first responders. Their efforts are greatly appreciated and honored in this house.
How well you've demonstrated photographically, the number of people who gave selflessly to save others. Personally, the few times "I've landed on the ground" I've been so grateful and calmed by their presence, and yet, at the time, I know I never even looked into their faces. My heart is with Diane's family as it is so very personal to them, with your community, because the loss is irreplaceable, and with others like her who give so selflessly. To each of you, our community friends here on 365 Jackie @jackies365 , Joe @thirdjoe , Kane @karlow75, and Jae @lifepause...thank you for your life choice to help others. It's truly appreciated, and at last I can say as much!
