Some have said
It begins when we are born.
I can see that.
I have seen that.
As a child, a small boy,
I sat in a station wagon, with faux wood paneling
In a neighborhood, on the outskirts of New York City
In the dark, while our parents went to a wake.
And, so, it continues
We grieve
I had a gerbil, Jeremiah. Loved Jeremiah.
Loved Jeremiah 2, too. and Jeremiah 3.
We really do understand better what we see.
When someone you know
Will Forever be 9
or 16
25.
55,75,95 or 105
We grieve
Parents and Children
Friends and Neighbors
Mentors and Heroes
We have bared Witness to their passing
Love lost. Tears. Sunsets.
Turning out the lights
Or putting the chairs up on the tables.
Closing time.
We are built for grief
We would simply not know Beauty otherwise.
There is no need to console me.
I know Beauty.
I embrace grief.
It is what I know.
For it is what we know as that is part of the cycle. So to embrace is good. To allow to intrude maybe stifling. To know grief is to have known and what can be better than that? Thanks for sharing. PS I don't like dead flowers :(
@vignouse I couldn't have said that better, Richard.
EVen before the last year ended, we family members were losing friends and hoped the new year would change all that as though we could somehow close a solid door. It hasn't stemmed the tide...friends and friends of friends...and we're in disbelief! Thank you for finding the words we can read to help us try to put it all in perspective... You're always so good at that Kevin!
@Weezilou There have been a great many goodbyes, stretching on too long. We are fortunate to have a life so full and a circle so large to suffer so. Cold comfort in the moment but no less true.
I felt deeply that you were having a difficult time...I'm so sorry. And in it all, your said it so perfectly (once again) that we're blessed int he wide circle of our friendships, but if we get the longevity we hope for, you have to say good bye to others less fortunate... Cold comfort, indeed...♥
@Weezilou Funny story: Me Da,a few years ago, applied for a job with our local baseball team; AA for Toronto Blue Jays. He was granted an interview. The 20 something who interviewed him mentioned that all of his references were professional, across the country and beyond. Asked if he had any local references. My father said "They're all dead". Don't know what brought that to mind. Save to say I am fine, and so is me Da, and my references too
knowing and truth in the words
