A Wish Before the Candles by kevin365

A Wish Before the Candles

Old is not a mindset
it is a fragile walk
a catch of breath
a sallow of the skin
and medication

weathered, beaten
treated callously
but not admitting.
it's one moment and
then the next
and no submission

I do not long
for who you were
That feeling disappears
In your presence

You kiss on the cheek
As never before
You hug, at times,
Like they'll never be more

I love who you are right now
I respect and admire
Who you are
Right now

We come from a long line
Of old age
You do them proud
Every single day

blow out the candles, Dad
And with the faiths, allow
let us sing for another year
And sing along, out loud

poignant poem. Perhaps my favorite movie to throw on about growing up, growing old, just growing at all is, "The Same River Twice" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0342956/ If you do Netflix, they offer it on disk. Such a great film.
