I used my old Nikon D90 today as I am still waiting for my D7500 to be fixed.
Today I am thankful for...
1. A relaxing day. I really enjoyed it.
2. Hobbies. As my camera is being fixed I spent a lot of time today enjoying my other two hobbies - Reading and letter writing.
3. For all your support. Even though I am not being creative with my camera at the moment. You guys still give a lot of support and I truly appreciate it. So THANK YOU all very much!
@merrelyn I take all my moon photos hand held. I do have a tripod, but I hardly ever use it. I used to so get frustrated in trying to take moon shots, until I learnt to shoot in Manual mode.
I shot this on my Nikon D90 using manual settings - f/8, 1/2000 sec, ISO 200 (this is the lowest my Nikon D90 will do. On my D7500 I would use ISO 100), My focal length is 300mm, which is the longest lens that I have. Then I crop the image after it is taken. One of the few times I actually crop any of my photos.
The fast shutter speed of 1/2000 second allows me to hold the camera still enough to get clear shots.
On my Nikon D7500 I use the same lens but seem to get the best shots around the f5.6, 1/640 sec, ISO 100. These settings were used on the other two moon photos I have taken this month - I would imagine you could use your D7200 with very similar settings to the above to capture the moon.
@merrelyn Not very often at all. On the odd occasion that I have to do any other processing, it in only adding 'fill light' to lighten it (used usually only on these settings if the moon is not a full one). I don't sharpen, clarify or any of those things.
Here is the original straight out of camera (I do use the raw version to crop though)
It may be a while before I get to play with moon shoots. I think there will be too many other things to photograph while we're away. I forgot to ask, which editing program do you use?
