Hope Springs Eternal by khawbecker

Hope Springs Eternal

A friend and I found early signs of Spring at the Pohick Church in Lorton, Virginia, today. This church was completed in 1774. George Washington and George Mason were members of the vestry. Parson Weems served as a Rector here. The church was raided by the British during the War of 1812 and was not restored until the 1840s. During the Civil War, Union troops used the church as a stable. Graffiti from the Union soldiers is readily evident today in the limestone around the door and on the corners of the building.
Yes, tulips. Mine are coming up also. I would love to see some of the Civil War. Nice history on this.

@carolyns Thanks, Carolyn. I was glad to see the tulips coming up, but we're expecting more snow on Monday. I was surprised that the Union soldiers mistreated this church, seeing as it was George Washington's church.
