Rockingham County Courthouse by khawbecker

Rockingham County Courthouse

Oddly enough, following the battle of Winchester in 1862, Stonewall Jackson imprisoned some Union soldiers on these courthouse grounds before the prisoners were transported to the Libby prison in Richmond. The gazebo in the foreground is a springhouse, which provided water to the Union soldiers. The county courthouse pictured here was built in 1897.
