Petrified forest

An ancient geological site of international importance, the 170 million year old Petrified Forest at Curio Bay is only visible 2 hours either side of the low tide. The now petrified logs, from ancient conifers closely related to modern kauri and Norfolk pine, were buried by ancient volcanic mud flows and gradually replaced by silica to produce the fossils now exposed by the sea. Quite fascinating to be wander amongst this fossil forest.
i remember visiting there many years ago
