I'm having a whale of a time with my new Kindle. I'm doing much more reading. I need to gift some books I think as the shelves need clearing. I've applied to be a volunteer book-giver-outer for World Book Night which is in early March.
@electricwriter - you think I should get one? Why are you reading more kindle versus book? I really need to gift a load of books too. What's World Book Night?
From my perspective, having a Kindle means I can carry lots of books around with me, plus newspapers and magazines I subscribe to.
It's a MASSIVE culture shift for a lot of people who prefer to read proper books - of which I am one. I know plenty of people who think Kindles are the spawn of the devil. But whilst it's nice to keep certain books, there are plenty which work just as well in electronic format. Like I said, I've actually found myself reading a lot more due to the convenience.
@electricwriter - I only read one book at a time and have over 300 sitting here waiting to be read so maybe I don't want one! Most people I talk to about them are very negative. Long live the book!!
I was getting excited about World Book Night - nice your going to be a book- giver -outerer but I had visions of it being a world wide event where you gifted all your pre read books. Oh well!
@kjarn Hmm, yeah - I was a bit like that until I bought one. I'm converted now. But I still prefer proper books; lots I will keep as they are specific editions (I like the Penguin traditional covers, for example), but much of your bog-standard fiction I don't mind having electronically.
I've applied to be a book-giver-outer but I don't know if I'll be successful. I think they might want people who are going on expeditions to the arctic or international space station who can get books to people who otherwise don't have access to a library or shop!
@electricwriter - I'm sure I could be converted but it makes sense to read what I already have before I even think about converting. Like you there are some books that I will always want as real books.

Good luck but I read it the same way as you did
