@casablanca@pamknowler the owner is a fully qualified chef but changed his focus from chef to business owner when he became legally blind in 2014 due to a brain tumour. He employs people of all abilities and the cafe is designed to incorporate accessibility, textural elements and contrasting shades to cater for the vision impaired. He doesn’t cook anymore but does wait on tables with the help of his guide dog.
I cant imagine cooking like that when blind. It would be some skill. Fascinating story on the chef and the way he has used his blindness to support and help others. Great mural too.
Fantastic mural and the background info really inspiring. There's a different (but same name?) restaurant like this in Newcastle too. The chef is blind and uses his restaurant to train vision impaired people of all abilities to achieve their potential in the hospitality industry.
@kartia that is so interesting. I checked it out on google and yes the two restaurants are very similar with similar back stories. The blind chef in Newcastle is Ian Edwards and the blind chef that I went to is Craig Shanahan.
