garden variety

I was talking on the phone with @happysnaps and happened to look out the front door and wait a minute - a koala! I then walked for like 20 minutes looking for him, only to finally find after hanging up he had going into an ornamental eucalypt right in front of him there - I presumed he had taken off down into the plantation.
Wow! We don’t often see them down on the ground like that!

So different to see one this way and not up in the trees! Great find and capture.

Oh my goodness, I wonder why Valentine was down on the ground! I'm glad you saw him while he was there, and that he went back up into a tree. I wonder what he was watching. He looks so different on the ground!

A fabulous capture! Certainly hard to resist and hug him/her

@kchuk because we no longer have huge old growth forests covering the landscape, koalas have to get down on the ground to move. he had come in the front gate, down the driveway and was heading to the trees in front of my kitchen :)

Great catch Katrina - but they always look so vulnerable on the ground. :)

Such an amazing capture

Great find - sometimes it is good to explore at another level than just tree-tops - as long as there is no predators/ enemies around!
August 23rd, 2023
@robz oh indeed, not only look more vulnerable but they are. this is why they are dwindling in number so rapidly
August 23rd, 2023
@onewing no not often, you have to be lucky (?) to be at the particular spot where they are moving at the right time as they get back up into a tree as fast as possible ;)

I think they risk the walk across your property because they know they are fairly safe. Good catch!

What a cute little rascal!! :)

@olivetreeann I hope so! they regularly walk about between trees - and this is when all the traumas happen that takes out nearly half the koalas we rescue each year sadly.

How exciting to see a koala walking across the grass in front.

@koalagardens if I may anthropomorphize Valentine... "I know this place! This is Ms. Katrina's place! I am safe here! Hi, Ms. Katrina!" (makes his way down your driveway) I'm not sure if the koalas actually know they are safe with you, and that you keep a close eye on them, but I'd like to think somehow they do.
