kangaroo grass - this was once the major grain crop in Australia and thus the economic base for much trade which brought harmony and joy to all who gathered together for such trade.
Strangely I struggled to work out what would make the best image for harmony, and yet my first thought had been kangaroo grass blowing in a gentle breeze.
Finally after many images that were lovely, but didn't seem to fit the word for the day I came back to the first image I had taken. I know that I feel a peacefulness sweeps over me when I see, and especially when I touch the seed heads of this grass.
It always reminds me too of the lesson it teaches me about this land - Australia was once a land of amazing bounty that was tended for countless tens of thousands of years by the most incredible conservationists. The flora they had domesticated grew with little water, in harsh conditions and they conditioned the soil. They die if fed phosphates and are watered.
They are the balancing bringers of food and plenty.
They are barely recognised now, and struggle to survive in the conditions that have changed to bring hard compacted desert lands.
So to me, kangaroo grass symbolises harmony and I'm so very lucky to have it on my property and my 5 year goal is for it to become the dominant native grass here.
This is a lovely image, I love the dappled light and I loved reading your text. I must look out for kangaroo grass if, no, WHEN, I visit Australia again.
But a wonderful, insightful story! And thank you for the background story - I had not realized the history associated with kangaroo grass. And you have shown it so well. :)
@robz I'm listening again to one of my favourite books called Dark Emu by Bruce Pascoe. He just released a children's version too called Young Dark Emu. Fascinating and since I first read this it has changed so much of how I look at many things, so when harmony came up as the word it was my first thought :)
