looks destructive huh? The yellow-tailed black cockatoo is ripping a hole in the trunk to get the borers out. These birds are huge, wing span over a metre and their screech - whew!

@robz that's so interesting! they only come through here at this time of year and I'm just glad I have habitat for them to visit. everything is truly connected

@theredcamera @beryl if it is full of borers it is unlikely to every thrive. sometimes the damage done ends in the tree breaking at some point. however, they come through my property every year seasonally, and I have a healthy forest growing. so as far as I can see, they give more benefit than damage. and you know, if the tree survives, in about 70 more years, this will develop into a hollow which will provide habitat for other species too
