I'm not sure which species this is as we have so many but it is gorgeous, possibly only very young as it could be one of the gargantuan types. so spikey and bizarre - you can barely see them in a tree. I gently put it on a tree after taking this as it is on my camera bag on the quad bike and I didn't want to take it acres away from its home!
Oh well spotted, it is gorgeous. Aren't they amazing insects. I was tidying up the garden picking up fallen twigs recently and nearly picked up a stick insect in the process. It would have been a surprise for both of us. ha ha.
I'm fascinated by this creature so dida bit of digging. Some photos show them having wings. Your one is apparently called a titan stick insect - and yes, they can get very large! Nature is just so ultra-fantastic!
They have amazing camouflage. I often see them under the front door light at night in the summer. You barely even know it's a bug until you look more closely. Excellent shot!
