Day 26: Grand Canyon Rim to Rim Trip: Martin Creek Lake Power Plant
Friday, November 4.
I woke up at 3 am, showered and hit the road by 3:40 am. I managed to miss the strong thunderstorms and 20-30 mph winds predicted for 8-10 am. I had breakfast and one cup of coffee before I left and then I stopped at a rest area off of I-20 and brewed up a second cup of coffee. I stopped and had a big breakfast around 11 am and then got an Americano to wake back up… it helped some but I was very sleepy. I arrived at Martin Creek Lake State Park around 1 pm.
I hiked the Old Henderson Loop Road and realized that I missed the cutoff so I hiked it twice… I found the way out the second time around. Bad weather is predicted for tonight… between 8 pm - 10 pm. Strong thunderstorms, large hail and possible tornadoes are possible. The ranger told me that I could get a knock on the camper door tonight if the weather gets bad I would be evacuated to the restroom. Hopefully this won’t happen. It is rather warm here… I tried the AC this afternoon but it just wouldn’t cool… maybe it is an in between temperature
While I was fixing dinner a woman drove by in a larger version of my camper… she honked and waved. Her camper is a Nucamp T@b is named “Olive” and has the green graphics just like my Nucamp T@g camper. I walked over and visited with her at her campsite and she told me about her travels with her sister… her name is Rebecca and she was fun to chat with. I watched the final Harry Potter movie this afternoon… so not sure what I’ll do to keep busy during the storm. I can hear the wind picking up outside though. Signing off for now.
--note---the storms overnight had a lot of lightning and rain but no hail or tornadoes luckily... I made out here... I had been very worried about the weather forecast.
