First Class Sandwich by kwind

First Class Sandwich

First, this is a horrible picture but it documents our travel day. If you read yesterday's post, you're aware of the crazy way we started our holidays.

After the roof blew away and we got it dealt with, we drove almost two hours through snow and eventually rain. We managed to get on the first ferry leaving Vancouver island (the earlier ones were cancelled due to severe wind). We made it to my sister's house in time for dinner. Before bed, my son complained of a headache. At 11:30, he woke with a fever and then puked!! We gave him some medicine and hoped for the best. The alarm went off at 4:45am and he was still hot. We pumped him with drugs and headed to the airport for our 7am flight. We made it to Portland, Oregon and then switched to our first class ride (we used airmiles for all our flights). The kids were excited to be in row 3 and get real food on real dishes. All was going well until Gage decided it was time to throw again. Unfortunately, there was little warning so most of it went on his and my husband's jeans. It's a long story but because of the airmiles we flew to San Diego (instead of Orange County) and are now on the final leg of our travel day. We are riding the Amtrack to Disneyland as I type. Can't wait to get to our hotel. Gage is starting to fight with his sister so I'm hopefully with a good night's sleep he'll be ready for the happiest place on earth tomorrow.

Sorry for the long story but I'm bored!! Ha ha. Now you know why I posted this ugly picture of a sandwich.

Hope you all had a lovely day.

Hahahha - actually your photo told me to go and cook supper. A very clear foody shoot.

Oh wow, Kim, interesting narrative... I remember those trips with my children. The bottom line is good and you are going to have lots of fun in Disney.

What a great story, Kim. . .er, great in terms of your story-telling ability not in having poor Gage be sick. I can remember so many identical stories of trips with our family - my daughter had such a delicate stomach and just the excitement of the upcoming vacation would send her into this same kind of upset!

Here I figured your boat house was the end of your adventures, but guess that's not to be. Hope the rest of the trip down here goes better. Enjoy Disneyland and our warmer weather (though that's relative - it's been cold for SoCal the past couple of days).

Wow! That was quite an eventful day. I hope he's feeling better. Oh the roof itself would be enough to deal with.

I hope it gets better for you. Your sandwich does look good
December 22nd, 2012
I must say I have been very lax in looking at others Photos. I don't know how you all find the time. Maybe it;s a age thing for me but there are never enough hours in a day. Have been considering dropping out of this one but know it will be a hard thing to do,

At any rate before I get to long-winded just wanted to say how much I enjoy your photos and to telly you how creative you are. Keep up the good work.
December 22nd, 2012
you were right here in Portland! wow...should have called, I could have brought you some meds...enjoy Disneyland...my son lives close to it.
December 22nd, 2012
Wow, the last few days have been an adventure!
December 22nd, 2012
Good gosh, not fun. The flu bug has been running rampant around here too. Hopefully he will feel better once he hits Disney. So that's what the food looks like in first class....I have never had the priviledge.
December 22nd, 2012
What a day...hope all goes well with your Disney visit!!
December 22nd, 2012
Oh dear! Sounds hellish. At least you should get some time for R&R once you arrive. I hope your son is feeling better now xx
December 23rd, 2012
Wow! Life is just getting better and better, isn't it?! Sorry to hear of your struggles. My kids always get sick when we travel. I hate that!
December 23rd, 2012
A goodness--what a chaotic way to start your holidays. I see from the later shots that life smoothed out nicely.
December 25th, 2012
goodness... sounds like a miserable way to begin a vacation... hopefully the bug was short lived and everyone is healthy by now!
December 27th, 2012
What a day. Reminds me of the old Steve Martin and John Candy film, Planes, Trains and Automobiles.!!
December 27th, 2012
Great story-telling! Your photos are great too...well, except this one. ;)
