My hubby returned home from work today with a gift... a 105m F2.8. He gave me this ring for our 20th anniversary (3 years ago). I'm so excited! Now I just have to figure out how to use it. So far, it's much harder than it looks. Any macro tips people can give I'd greatly appreciate!!
I love my macro lens. It is my go to in any situation. The big thing is to realize that if you try to get too close with it you can't focus. You'll know all about it in no time. I also really like to use manual focus. Enjoy! What a guy.
Awesome, have fun with your new toy! I have no advice for you, as I don't have a macro lens, but would LOVE one! I can't wait to see more of your pics!
Oooh, lucky you! What a thoughtful hubby....and a gorgeous ring too! :-) I am (not so) secretly coveting a macro lens (and a 6D...and a wide angle!) ;-) Have fun playing with your new lens. Looking forward to seeing your shots.
Congrats on your new lens! I love mine! I used it for the refractions on the poppy on yesterdays picture! Beautiful ring and I liked that you put it against the other rocks!!!
Gorgeous macro shot of your beautiful ring!!! What a wonderful husband to bring you such nice gifts!!! Have fun with your new lens!!! Thanks for your comment on my great grandson!!!
Congrats! If I ever have an event I need chronicling, it's you I'd want for the job. The comp, the hue of blue. The texture of the rocks. You are so good. And have fun with new lens. Smart hubby!!!!
Looks to me like you and that sweet macro lens are working together wonderfully already. Something tells me you're going to love it immensely. Like all the others, I'm looking forward to seeing more images.
Wonderful picture, beautiful ring, a terrific gift, and most importantly a hubby who knows you well enough, and loves you so much that he wants to make you happy!! I have the 105 macro, and I love it!! Still trying to figure it out to get the most out of it, but it is a great macro lens, but also supposed to be a wonderful portrait lens, which I know you will put to great use.
awesome pic - BEAUTIFUL stone!! my biggest tip is use a tripod or something to steady the camera with as any movement, no matter how slight will result in blurred or slightly put of focus images. Have fin with it.I have a 100mm macro and love it!
I thought you were going to say you found this ring when using your macro lens!!! ROFL!! Beautiful ring and I'd give my right kidney for a macro lens!!!! I've used my friend's macro a couple times and I got as close as I could without trying to bring it closer using the lens. Then I cropped it and it brings it closer and show more details!! Best advice is to just keep trying different things with it and different modes. I always put mine in the macro mode because I'm not real good with manual! Soon you will know exactly what to do and how to do it and I can't wait to see your photos!!! FAV on the ring and the lens!!! Oh yes, and the photo!!!! Congratulations you lucky lady you!
what an amazing gift, Im not great at macro but I'm looking forward to where this will take your photography. What is this like with at portraits? You should try focus stacking if your good at PS.
Fabulous shot. Not sure you need too many tips. However my best advice is to rock! I focus either manually or automatically and then rock my body gently backwards or forward until I am 100% happy with the focus. e.g.. if squatting then just rock on my toes... careful not to overbalance and fall into the lavender bush full of bees etc. My macro is my go to lens. You will love it. Challenging but so rewarding. Fav!
How wonderful to get a macro lens - my favourite. A tip would be that it is hard get the focus you want sometimes, so take a load of shots. Getting the eye of an insect in focus is hard to see on the back of the camera.
Great image. I usually use manual focus and a tripod when using my micro nikkor 105 f2.8. I also have a ring flash that works well with it too. Mine's an oldie, got it in the early '90's
I have the same lens. It's my favorite lens! The tripod is your friend, when you get this close. If you are going hand-held, even a little bit of breathing will make the focus go in and out. Then I shoot in burst mode hoping one shot will be in focus! :)
Fabulous shot - set off very well against the stones. I have the same spec macro lens which I love but it takes patience to get used to the shallow DOF - a tripod and manual focus are the keys to great macro shots I think!
