I woke this morning and spotted this frozen spider web on our glass railing so I grabbed my new macro lens. I'm still getting used to it. Focusing is tricky... What looks focused through the hole isn't always what is.
I think you were asking for advice on using macro lenses yesterday. Does your camera have live view where you can see what you're looking at on the back screen instead of looking through the view finder? If it does I would suggest that you use a tripod, if you can, and use live view where you can magnify a part of what you're looking at and focus it . You do need to use manual focus to do this. Then use either your 2 second timer or a remote trigger to take the photo to keep it from getting camera shake when the button is pressed. I love my macro lens and I am sure you will love yours too. Focussing can be a bit tricky although you did a good job with your frozen web. Nice shot.
Wonderful capture! I saw a spider's web in our yard the other day spanning between two branches, and forbade my husband to even cross it!! I concur with @shepherdmanswife@maggiemae@debilz that not only the field of focus is tight, but ANY movement can alter the focus. I had attended a lecture by a master of macro photography before I got mine, and I remember her saying that she always took her shots in very controlled environments to reduce shake (we are talking the slightest wind outdoors here!), stabilized everything, and would not even breathe when she pressed the remote shutter! It is tricky, but the results can be so beautiful. Have fun with it...
Great shot! A trick that I learned was instead of trying to focus with your hand move the camera back and forth until your subject is in focus if you are taking a handheld shot! If it is something that isn't moving then a tripod is your best bet!
Tooooo, too coooooool!!!! It looks like a crocheted doily and if you don't know what a doily is, I'll say table cloth!!! LOL What awesome details and it even looks some what like a snow flake!!! Just love this!!!! FAV!!!!!!!!!!!
Very strong use of your macro. I think when it's brighter out you can use a larger f/stop to let in ore light and give you more wiggle room for DoF. But this works well, I think!
Wow, this is amazing. I'm considering a macro lens and all the tips and hints here are brilliant. Fav for me because I've never seen a frozen web and you have captured it so wonderfully.
