Some of you may recognize this shot. I first posted it back in February... http://365project.org/kwind/365/2014-02-17 I entered it in a local photo contest which was looking for images about Campbell River. I WON first place and a whack of exciting prizes including a night's stay at a resort which includes a gourmet dinner and breakfast, a 6 hour whale watching trip for 2, a Tyee fishing trip, a pottery bowl, and passes to our local museum and a large framed print of it. The biggest honour is that they are going to use it for the cover of a tourist magazine about my city. This is a computer print out of the layout. The actual magazine comes out January 1st and will be printed on glossy paper. My daughter and I were presented with our prizes and had our photo taken for the newspaper yesterday.
I want to say THANK You for all your macro tips. I did use a tripod and my remote trigger. I have the live view option but have never really used it so I'll check that out. A couple of people suggested a ring flash and a focusing by moving the camera position so I'm going to check into that as well. I definitely realize the need for a controlled environment.
WOW!! That is fantastic! You must be so thrilled. I didn't realize that you where from Campbell River. I have been there a few times. I use to live out west. This is an amazing photo so I am not surprised you won!
Congratulations Kim, how awesome that you got the first prize and all those gifts. It's a wonderful capture. BTW, if you can: in your narrative delete the period after the link, because the way it is, doesn't find the original capture.

this is awesome, congratulations. I knew you were from BC but I didn't know it was Campbell River. My aunt & uncle and cousins live there and I have fond memories of visiting them there.
