The Lights are Dim tonight! by kwind

The Lights are Dim tonight!

Wow... we woke to the BIGGEST waves we've seen since living here. Two of our driftwood trees toppled over. The pile of wood on the grass is normally our path to the beach. The rain and wind were crazy through the night but lightened up during the day. Storm number two is projected for tonight and tomorrow! I wish the big wave was clearer but if you enlarge you can see chucks of wood being tossed about. You might also notice the adirondack chair in front of the tree. That was on the other side but came falling over and is no longer usable. Mother Nature is powerful!

Here's a link to my FB album with more shots from the day. There was eventually sunshine and a rainbow. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152394768631150.1073742055.548771149&type=1&l=c186ad37f6
Wow! This is a great catch of the wildness of that ocean! It must have been so noisy and probably still is! You are so close to the sea!

wow - what a great capture - so much going on in this picture!
December 10th, 2014
Oh no! The lighted tree! Please tell me it's been rescued. It's too cool to let Mother Nature beat it up any more.

@lyndemc The one in the shot is now standing upright (he was completely upside down at one point) but we haven't connected the lights yet. We'll wait until tomorrow and see what the weather brings. The extension cord was floating in the waves this morning. The other tree is still down but fixable... tomorrow!

@maggiemae The funny thing was the rain pounding on our metal roof woke me in the night, not the wind. We paid a fortune for seaworthy windows... I guess they work because when we opened then doors in the morning, it was loud!
December 10th, 2014
Holy moly, that is intense!! Hope all calms down.
December 10th, 2014
I can see those bits of sticks... yowsie! I hope your sweet lighted tree survives. It is so sincere (to quote Linus). Good luck!
December 10th, 2014
Mother nature doesn't know how to do things by halves but it has certainly given you a dramatic black and white image. I hope things calm down soon and more importantly I hope you can save your fantastic xmas tree.

December 10th, 2014

December 10th, 2014
The power of the ocean indeed.
December 10th, 2014
Yes, mother nature is powerful, but that is also part of the appeal of living that close to the water! Amazing storm, and I am hoping that everything that got broken can be fixed or rebuilt....I saw the photos on FB, and it certainly did some damage!
December 10th, 2014
Awesome shot

Tom
Great capture of the storm and crashing waves, b & w captures the mood
December 11th, 2014
Oh my, excellent capture of the waves and stormy weather
December 11th, 2014
I think waves are really hard to capture. You want to snap at the height of the wave but there is no predicting that. But as someone who has driven to the coast to watch storms I think you have done a great job here. I hope the second storm didn't do too much damage.
December 11th, 2014
Wow that is a big storm indeed! poor tree, it was so pretty! Hope the damage isn't to big!
December 11th, 2014
What a stormy sea. Good you got a shot of your tree already.

December 13th, 2014
Very dramatic Kim. Good shot
December 13th, 2014
What a powerful storm. It's good to hear your house is safe and sound and back from the water. I liked the rainbow that came out too, you had some great light throughout the day.
