Cute socks with little toes in. Lovely hearts too. A must for Rome is St Peters Basilica in Vatican City. You don't have to be a church goer to appreciate this amazing church with it's soaring arches, amazing statues, pillars and ceilings. It's quite amazing to stand in the huge square and see the balcony where the Pope stands to give his blessings and feel the atmosphere. There can be long queues but you can book a ticket.
A ride in a gondola is a must for Venice, despite the cost! I dropped my lens cap in ours when stepping out and the gondolier ran over the bridge and along the street to catch us up and return it. Hows that for service.
What a great opportunity!!! Venice is a photographer's dream (but very pricey). Anywhere you walk, you'll have wonderful shots. We did the tourist thing and went out to the glass blowing island and while touristy, it was great fun.
Fun sock shot!
Cutie toes! Yay Italy! I'm sure you will go to check out the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican. One tip that I took was to arrive right at opening time then head directly to there, bypassing the other sights for later... You will likely get the room to yourself for a short while. It was more than a little bit magical witnessing the masterpiece all on my own, (with one security guard). I did go back a bit later and it was very crowded, but also neat to enjoy it united in wonder with the masses. If you get a chance, Pompeii is pretty amazing.
A lovely pair of sweet quirky socks -- reminds me of the song "twenty tiny fingers and twenty tiny toes "as sung by Max Bygraves in my childhood days !!
A lovely holiday to look foreward to ! Yes Venice is beautiful and full of photographic opportunities around every corner and also the three little islands of- Murano ( glass blowing and Murano glass ) Burano (lace making ) and Torello (and its ancient church ) Plenty of opportunities which I absolutely enjoyed when I visited !
Adorable socks... love the pink. Italy! So exciting... I am looking forward (photographically speaking, of course) to your trip! It has been a lot of years for me since my single trip, so I don't have any current advice other than, if you can get to Florence for the art and the gelato, they are not to be missed.
Love this! FAV! Rome is awesome! So much to see and do there. Pisa is little, but really cute. Florence was awesome, too. Are you driving from Venice to Rome? When we were there 20+ years ago, our first trip to Italy scared us to death, so we took the train to Rome! LOL! Lets just say that stop lights and lane lines are suggestions! Have fun.
What fun socks!! Nice photo!! We've been to both places in Italy. LOVED it!! If you have time to climb to the top of dome in St Peters, the view is awesome. Plus getting to see the mosiacs up close is a plus!!
Cute socks and nice capture. The news of your trip are very exciting. I could give you many suggestions, but depends on where are you going and how long you are planning to stay. Italy is gorgeous.
personally I wouldnt leave Venice! I fell totally in love with it spend time off the beaten tourist trail to see real Venice thats what we did and def visit the islands around it Murano and Burano they are all so wonderful cant wait to see your pics!
You are going to have a ball! We had such an awesome time in Italy last year and must get back soon but we are planning on New York for Christmas this year with a side trip to Victoria to see one of my oldest friends, maybe we might be able to catch up when we are there.
Cute feet !
Italy ?! Fantastic we have spent our honeymoon in Venice and use to go to Milano every spring.
I have been in Roma, Firenze and some other places in Tuscano when I was younger...years ago !
Great pic! And enjoy your trip! Rome is amazing!!! How long are you traveling? If it's a long trip I highly recommend taking some time to see Tuscany. I studied abroad there so I'm kind of biased;-)
@homeschoolmom@anazad511@katymac80 It's just my husband and I going and we only have 13 days (don't want to leave the kids with my parents too long). My top priorities are Venice and Cinque Terre. We aren't big art people so we'll only do the occasional museum, nor are we at all religious so quick walks through churches are on our list. We are fast movers and have a "get in, get out" approach so we can see as much as possible. I'm thinking 2 full days in Venice. One day to explore the city and another to go to the neighbouring islands. Then we'll train over to Cinque Terra via Pisa. We'd really like to see the leaning tower and I hear there's not much more there. Two full days on the coast exploring the fishing villages and then train it to Rome. Two full days of exploring there and then I found a tour that's three days/two nights. It takes us to Naples, Pompei, sorrento, Capri. My sister went to the Blue Grotto and said it was pretty cool. Then we'll return to Rome for a final day before flying home. That's our tentative plan. All that's booked at this point is the flights. @nicolecampbell Xmas in New York will be wonderful. That's a big side trip to Victoria, BC??? If we're here I would love to meet you. We're thinking a warm Christmas might be in order after staying home the last two.
Those are so cute! Italy in May will be gorgeous. My top tip would be to book places online in advance - you would not believe the queue for the Vatican. In fact I think we got a Rome pass for several places - very handy.
You don't need to be religious for the Vatican (in fact it's opulence is offputting) but it's very interesting. Also there's another volcano site like Pompeii that's supposed to be even better (haven't been to either!) Sounds great.
Fabulous fun shot. I love it! How wonderful to be going to Italy. Nice time of year, too. Stayed at the Cavalieri Hilton in Rome years ago--- fabulous everything and the view is phenomenal! Never been to Venice and would LOVE to see Capri, too.
@skipt07 I did see Jennifer's images. thanks for thinking of me. They are amazing. I can't begin to explain how excited I am to see the city with my own eyes.
That's a whole lot of little hearts on these socks. Such exciting news about your trip to Italy. Already looking forward to the pictures you come home with.
such a cute shot! Rome is awesome... but my kids got tired of wondering around looking at ruins pretty quickly... at least you won't be there in high summer... it was over 30 C when we were there last summer and it was HOT... the colosseum is of course a no-brainer... you might try to get into the catacombs... for whatever reason, we weren't able to - and i was told that no photography was allowed in any event - but i was sorry to have missed them...
@northy We're deliberately going in May to avoid the high heat and we're leaving the kids at home because I know they would whine and shrivel about walking everywhere. My sister did the catacombs years ago and said they were great so that's on our list. We did the ones in Paris and loved them! Photos were allowed but no flash there.
@kwind smart about the kids... bring really good walking shoes :) and yeah, i would test out the theory that photography may be allowed in the catacombs just no flash...
Must of miss this shot and just saw it in the collage and had to find it as little it looked like a 'cleavage'.. but no a pair of socks... silly me... lucky you going to Italy one of the things on my bucket list....
Fun sock shot!

I suggest, you see everything you can and sleep very little!!! Sounds just awesome!!
