I finally got a ND filter so I was experimenting today. I had it in BULB mode and played around with different times holding down the shutter. A few times large blue rings appeared. I've cropped this but you can see the deep blue on the bottom right. It was like this only much worse and wrapped around. Any ideas what's causing it??? I'm totally new to this so any suggestions would be good. Thanks.
This is amazing and beautiful. Was this a 39sec exposure at 1am (thats what your exif says) ??? what nd filter did you use?
I cant help you with the blue rings but I do know that any photos I have taken with my ND filter was weird colour (one was too purple, the others had a strange greenish tinge) I fiddled with the white balance and that seemed to help.
I will be watching for replies. Fav
Are you using a variable ND filter? I have one and mine does the same - these rings that slide across the frame as you rotate the filter. I just play with it until the ring sits right on the edge of the frame, adding just a bit of a vignette but nothing more.
Thanks for your comments. It's a variable nd filter that rotates. Some of the shots the colours were really bad and others not so much. I guess I need to experiment with it more. I just got the camera and was fiddling with the date/time options just previous to this shot. I just checked and I messed up on the am/pm feature so that explains the wrong exit info. Thanks for pointing it out.
Try to add a CPL filter on top of the ND. That clears out reflections and might result to a more balanced color. I love the blue though. I'd keep it this way. It's gorgeous!
I have no experience of long exposures yet but I did buy an 8 stop recently - have to wait until I can get to a beach to use it! I think the blue is an amazing colour and adds to the picture. Great shot!
