Took this today while I was at the beach getting my 365 Anniversary shot organized for tomorrow. I looked up and saw an eagle carrying something LARGE in its talons. I couldn't tell what it was. Seconds later a second, smaller eagle, approached and the two of them had a little spat (center pic). Then the eagle started almost hopping up an down and making a dreadful noise. I thought maybe he had got some kind of litter on his foot and couldn't get it off. I grabbed the camera and started to walk slowly toward him. He totally ignored me to the point that I was able to get about 10 feet (3m) from him. It turned out it was a LARGE salmon head (no body). He pecked at it and started to rip it apart. I couldn't believe how close I was. I inched a little closer and then he took off. It was quite an amazing sight!! Ten minutes before this, I witnessed two sea lions flip out of the water and have an amazingly loud conversation. A great wildlife day!! Please view it large to see the details.
Brilliant! I saw one from my backyard this afternoon. He was doing circles high above the trees - he looked *huge*. I'd love to see one up close like this.
