Here's the bird I was telling you about from this shot... http://365project.org/kwind/365/2013-06-13. I went back and took a shot of the bird. In the past, she opened up its wings but today she just stared at me. Does anyone know what kind it is?
I believe Jeff is right, it is a Killdeer. When their babies hatch they will be able to walk, but may may see them riding on their parents backs. They always lay their eggs on the ground, in fields or around stones to hide them from predators.
@skipt07 - Also, when you get close to the nest, a parent will act injured by holding one wing out to the side as if the wing is hurt to try and draw you away from the nest.
