After working my last school day of the year I went to the house and vacuumed, then mopped the concrete floors for two hours today. Not the prettiest of shots but people were asking about the inside of the house. We had concrete poured and then grinding and polishing machines were used to give us this smooth, shiny look. Our cabinet guy is behind schedule so it will be another month and a bit before we can move in. The finisher is going to start the window trims and baseboards tomorrow and the tile guy is set to start our walk in shower and TV wall. There's a gas fireplace behind that cardboard on the wall straight ahead. The TV will go above and a built in cabinet unit to the left. Our bedroom is off in the distance. There's a spot in the center of the floor that looks like a mistake but it's actually an electrical plug outlet.
This looks good for what is going to be there. Great idea for the plug - we put one in the middle of an island bench - its a pull-up one.. Building takes so LONG!
what a wonderfuly large living space ~ and i love the size of the windows ~ if i could I would live in a glass house ~ love windows :-)
The floor looks great ~ as others have said I would never of thought concrete would of shined up so well ~ looks fab!
I cant believe how good the floor looks. so was it poured over the slab (if there was a slab) and does it work out cheaper or more expensive than say a wooden floor or carpet?
@dreams We're having in floor heating so the pipes were laid on the plywood floor and then the concrete poured directly on top. Then we covered it in plastic and black roofers paper to protect it. The drywallers and painters came and then the floor people came back to grind it multiple times, first with wet pads and then with dry (finer) ones. It looks better in the photos than in real life. I'm really not sure if I like it. A few cracks have appeared as well (we opted not to put cut lines in and knew this was a risk). It was expensive but probably comparable to buying tile and paying the labour to install it. I would never do it again!
I think it turned out great! When we finish our basement, I think we're going to leave our concrete floors as well. Although, the big thing around here is to stain the concrete and then polish it to a shine. But I think your natural look goes perfectly with your big open, clean design, especially on the beach! Beautiful!!
well - i for one totally LOVE this kind of shot... but i realize the main thing about this is that it must be such an important milestone for you... such a gorgeous looking space, btw...
Oh wow, I love it!!! I've seen floors done like this before and also kitchen benches! I love how smooth and "soft" if feels to touch. Is it slippery at all either wet or dry?
