Not the best of shots but I thought I'd share what the boat looks like that we go out in when whale watching. That's me with the big lens. My daughter is using a go pro on a stick to take this shot. We wear the big red suits as floatation devices and as a source of heat. The boat moves FAST so it can get a bit chilly. There were 4 whales around us at this point. I'm not a big boat person and often fear death (I don't get sea sick) when it's rough but on these boats I always feel safe. I love how open it is and low to the water.
@milaniet It wasn't technically moving at this point. There's the rocking from the waves but no speed involved. The driver shuts off the motor while we watched the whales.
Love the action and movement in this shot. Your daughter is adorable. She seems to really be enjoying her environment. You have a HUGE lens. :) So glad that I get to enjoy your shots.
Wow -- a lot smaller than I'd thought it would be. That's quite a lens -- I'm impressed with what you are able to take as your shots are so clear! It looks heavy.
How small these boats are for whale watching! Over here they use quite big ones. Maybe that is because so many people want to go - not sure. But this is surely up close and personal with them.
A super shot of you all -- ,I am amazed and shocked at the size of the boat which seems to be so low in the water !! ---scary !!!!! And what a lens ! no wonder you were able to post such wonderful shots on previous days -- of course I do know that a lens without a good photographer behind the camera ---- thank you for sharing !
@colinbarber013 Yes, the GoPro came with a waterproof case. Being that it's a wide angle the videos we took both above and below water weren't very effective. I wish I had it out for the dolphins. The were RIGTH beside and underneath the boat.
@lesip It was a warm day - probably the low 20s but when the boat is moving it goes fast so you need the suits and toques. I've got shorts and a t-shirt on underneath but I always wear socks and shoes so my feet don't get cold.
Wow, that's a lot of red.....even for someone like me who loves red!! I guess they can't miss you if anything were to happen!! The lens is stupendous....are you using the 150-600? OK, so I went out whale watching once, just once, a 3-hour trip, and I was seasick for 2.5 of that, totally miserable, and that was the end of it! So glad you had such a fantastic outing!!
@panthora It's a 50-500 but I don't use it too often. It's decent on a tripod but was not ideal on the boat. We were on the boat almost 8 hours, except for a 45 minute lunch break.
That is some lens Kim.......happy faces on a whale watch.....love you all in the red outfits! 8 hours is a long time you would have wobbly legs at the end!
