In the 16th century the Baptist religion was not allowed and the people had to meet in secret, in homes etc. Late in the century a law was passed allowing other religions and then the villagers would meet in open spaces. Although there was a Baptist church further along the road this church was built in 1824 with the school room added on the left in 1883.
