A look around the Village. No. 6

Another interesting group of cottage on the main High Street are these known as Marling Cottages. Originally built as Mill Workers cottage around the mid 1800's they belonged to the very big woolen mill nearby called Marling and Evans. 4 cottages now but originally 5 very small ones.

It was said that the noise of the small looms could be heard from outside the cottages as the occupiers worked at home weaving the wool supplied by the mill. See January 12th for the mill picture.

Went back to have a look at the mil, it is just such a gorgeous building. These cottages are cute, the middle one especially, I do like double fronted houses
Nice village you live in

Those cottages look amazing! They just don't make things like this anymore - too rushed to take their time! Great image. Thanks for sharing.

@claireuk @lynnilou Thank you both for looking and your commets. Claire I think originally it was 5 cottages and your double front house was one 2 cottages.

I didn't realize they were weaving inside their homes. At that time it was likely special to have one of these homes.

@kathiecb Thank you Kathie, all over the Stroud Valleys they were home weaving, long hours and little money.
