This bench was found rotting in a garden and my Brother-in-Law has been asked to restore it. Look closely at the writing on the bench back and you'll see the name RMS Mauretania (1906 - 1934).
One of Cunards biggest ships running between Southampton and New York and held the crossing record for many years. During WW1 she was commissioned by the Royal Navy and renamed HMS Tuberose before returning to a passenger liner in 1919.
Now you might think this might be for the later Mauretania from the 30's. Well look closely at the back slates and you will see the shape of the ship with 4 funnels which was the early one. All the bits are being cleaned and the bench restored, another final pic to follow.
