Nearly every village or Town in the UK has it's own pub, in fact many years ago there were several pubs in each village where you had a choice of where to get your pint. In my small village there were 8 pubs but today this has been reduced to just one, The Kings Head.
This pub, The Prince Albert, is in the village of Rodborough where my late Sister lived and has stood on this road junction since the 1700's although there has been many alteration over the years, the inside hides an oldie fashioned world. The name was changed to The Prince Albert in the Victorian period after the name of the Queens husband.
The downturn of the village pubs can be contributed to the cheap alcohol from supermarkets and the home entertainment such as the television. Who wants to go out in the cold when you can now have a cold beer from the fridge and watch your favourite programme from the comfort of your own home.
I will try and bring you some more interesting ale houses, particularly if they have a history
Hope you also test the ales in each pub you post :) We definitely have followed this English tradition as we pubs in every town too - just have to beware of "the pub with no beer!"
Lovely shot. I would think they wouldn't need a sign stating they sell beer. Reminds me of a stupid trick of calling a smoke shop on the phone and asking if they have Prince Albert in a can....you know how the rest goes.
Very nice composition and architecture. Where I grew up in New Orleans there was a neighborhood bar/restaurant on many corners in the older sections of town.
Yes I can. I can definitely see the pub. I'm thinking of doing project on public houses, as there are so many of them (though, like you say, not as many as there used to be for the reasons you gave). Support your local publicans, especially those who are independent and serve good quality ales.
