Just had to capture this view yesterday when I was down by the new canal and the railway bridge. The view from underneath the bridge looking lengthwise towards the old mill was something different.
I must admit I didn't like the graffiti on the back wall and tried to cover it with my portrait, but it ruined the picture for what it actually looks like. The brickwork is fantastic for this viaduct bridge that was built in 1841 by the famous Islambard Kingdom Brunel, just think of the workman that produced it.
There has to be a song that goes with the title, it was originally sung by Flanagan and Allen in 1932, but as I couldn't find a good version here is a 1948 one by the Andrews Sisters, enjoy:
Great engineering by Brunel, nicely rendered. This version by F&A themselves is good I think...especially lamb, Yorkshire pudding and two veg for 9 1/2 old pence! What times those Londoners lived through. I was born in the year this was filmed (1941), in Woking, not so far from London. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gT7-TmiHEe4@gijsje@helstor
@ivan Brilliant link Ivan. Woking, one of my teams enemy in football. My Father was a real Cockney being born in Lambeth within the sound of Bow Bells.
Such wonderful composition. I'm glad you kept the graffiti as the archways lead right to it. And I'm looking forward to the musical inspiration for today! Oh and this is a fav for me!
Fabulous song choice - of course, once I got over there, I couldn't just settle for one - had to listen to Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and Don't Sit Under The Apple Tree too. Thanks for the memories!
