Winter is just around the corner and I won't be getting out in the countryside so much for geocaching and photography. So what hobbies will I be doing, particular as I don't do knitting, embroidery or art..
What I do love is genealogy and have spent several years working on my own family and friends that have ask for help. Now I love finding old silver christening mugs and spending time researching the family and in the end getting a copy of the birth certificate. (In Britain that's not cheap)
The one in the picture is for a "William Page Bodle" who was born in Greenwich, London in July 1868. From his history he died at the early age of 34 in Greylingstad, Transvaal-Colony, South Africa. I believe he was an officer in the British Army. Interesting that his middle name Page was his Mother's maiden name. Sadly several of his Brothers died early as well.
So there you go, when the snow or rain is on the ground I will be doing more research on the good old PC. Thank you all for your comments and FAVs, appreciated as usual.
Gosh that's a great hobby Heather and this is a lovely capture. I researched into an old snuff box that we came across and it belonged to a sailor on a ship in Austrailia. They gave the men snuff to prevent them from smoking as the ship was timber and very flammable
Love your hobby Heather - and you have polished the mug brilliantly - I need to put my sunnies on it is so bright :) Might have to get you to research my ancestors from England!!!
Lovely mug and interesting story. I love genealogy too and have traced my family extensively. It was very commonplace to have a middle name of the mothers maiden name. Made it much easier to keep on the right family line too. Such lovely hobbies.
Great capture of the pretty christening mug which looks beautiful. Your hobby is interesting and will certainly keep you busy throughout the winter days.
Fascinating. I've done the family history from both sides of the family but just don't seem to have the time at the moment.Maybe in the winter I'll get back to it. I am still spending as much time outside as I can while the weather lets me!
Beautiful, I was blessed that one of my relatives did all the research on our family. Found out we are German and French Huguenot! And or relatives started a community not far from my old Virginia hometown called Manakintown. Now called just Manakin!!
