I should think for some children this would be Hell's Bells. I know it would have been for me as I hated my time at school. This is a bell tower on a local very old school and the bells would be rung to make sure all the village children were at their desks.
I must admit they don't make schools like this anymore and perhaps don't have a bell to ring. Saying that I do remember the playground bell which was hand held and a person was chosen to ring it each day. Did you have a bell at your school. View with the dark surround.
Thank you for all your comments and FAV's, I know I've said it before but I love reading all of them.
Love the composition and presentation on this...now I'm trying to remember what we had to signal the start of school or recess. I think we had a bell (more like a buzzer) in the hallways. Sadly, both my elementary and junior high school were torn down and rebuilt.
My primary school has been pulled down and replaced by a modern building. It was a bit archaic as we outside toilets that were not of the flushing kind but I still have fond memories of my first day at school when I was asked by the teacher who I would like to sit next to and I said Sheila because she was tall and had curly hair which I admired as mine was straight!
Ah, grades 1-5, the school had real bells, not like the bell tower, but the red bowl shaped bells. I don't remember them for their ringing between classes, but for their emergency ring, all bells would "ding" once a second[?] thru the whole school. It was a sound to hear. That school has since been replaced...
Nice picture, Heather. Brings back memories. I remember my primary school had a bell, not a bell tower. The school still exists, but it is now used as a physiotherapy practice. My high school had very noisy buzzers.
Yes I had a bell too - must mean we're the same age! Ours was in the open though, no beautiful tower! And another different thing - I loved going to school :)
Yes we had a hand held bell too, someone used to be chosen to ring it at the right time. I can't remember what used to signal end of each lesson but a buzzer I think. My old school is now a Paul Heathcote's Wine bar. The Olive Tree in Preston Lancashire.
Grades 6 and above were electronic "bells".
great capture and processing
