There is something great about doing geocaching and photography at the same time. The reason being is that geocaching often take you to some interesting places and there's often a chance of an unusual capture, Today I link my picture with a well known phrase "Caught between a rock and a hard place".
The meaning being that sometimes in life you have to make choices where neither has got the best of ending. It could be if you decide to take one choice that could really upset another person, or vice-versa. Now where did this phrase originate from and why.
It seems to be down to the good old USA for this one, and in particular Arizona where the miners had a very serious dispute with the owners. For many workers they were deported to New Mexico and the phrase came about. Either work on the rocks for no money or go to New Mexico which was classed as a hard place.
So what is the connection with my picture which I found on the village green, I do not know what's being celebrated but for me: I have a ROCK, and the village I was in is called HARDwicke, hence my connection. Go on view with the dark background.
See I'm not just a pretty face, thank you for all your comments and FAV's for the evening sky, I must admit I had some lovely response from others.
The first time I heard this expression was when one of the three Beiruit hostages said it....I think it might have been Brian Keenon, or Terry Waite or John Mcarthy, can't remember which one. It's always stuck in my mind!
Great story as usual.
Ah haha. much more than a pretty face! Great back story info on the cliche; I never knew where it originated and I love how the brain makes the photo connection with the cliche.
Great story as usual.
