I've remained with canals today and a comparison between yesterday's wide clear blue water one that takes large boats, to this older one that winds it's way through the valley.
These two canals meet up just a couple of miles away, behind the camera, but they are so different. Yesterday's takes shipping up to Gloucester docks and is in regular use, there isn't a single lock over it's whole length. Whereas this one, which is still being restored, and has 36 locks as it climbs over the Cotswold Hills and down to the River Thames and London.
This is one of the beautiful spots along the canal, the lock has been restored and it sits among all the greenery, a lovely place to picnic and watch the ducks.
This is a very picturesque part of your canal Heather. Both so different yet part of the same network. Perhaos this will get better used as it gets fully restored & folk get to know how lovely it is!
Good shot & interesting info. Its good to know the canal is being restored..
I worked for British Waterways in the 1970's when I lived in the Midlands & formed a fondness for the canal
