I expect we have all heard of the sink of the Titanic in April 1912 and what had caused the catastrophe to the mighty liner, well last night I was shocked by a very similar explosion, again caused by a similar item.
I usually go to bed quite late, I don't need beauty sleep like many others. One of the last jobs is to take my medication before bed, so I went to the fridge to get the fruit juice out to help swallow my tablets.
Suddenly there was a massive explosion, like a loud gunshot coming out of the fridge. It made me jump back and my heart was beating rapidly. What on earth was that, had my fridge freezer blown up, what am I going to do with all the food within the fridge and freezer.
A few seconds later there was a second explosion which made me jump backwards. I decided to search within and came across this ginger beer can on the top shelf. The top had exploded open first, and then the whole can had split open down the side. What was going on?
Yesterday was my food delivery and it also fills the fridge, my big ugly Brother didn't come round to collect his items and I had to store those in the fridge as well. This can of ginger beer got forced to the back where it stood next to where the cold air is pumped into the fridge; which caused it to freeze inside.
The explosions were because when the liquid turning into a large internal iceberg splitting the tin open. So there is your connection, The Titanic was sunk by an iceberg hitting the metal hull of the ship, whereas my explosions were caused by an inside iceburg splitting the ginger beer can.
So a warning, make sure your don't put liquid blocking the cold air inlet in your fridge. You might cause a Titanic event with an iceburg.
Keep smiling. You can still see the iceberg inside the can.
Aaaahaaahaaaaa!!!! I think i would have shit myself. Then attack the fridge with an axe. Or rather run to my father's and call him to open the terrorist fridge.
At least the damage and debris was limited to you frig. In my younger days, I would travel to the Grand Canyon (Arizona) during the winter months. I decided to spend New Years camping there, not knowing that the temperature would be hitting/falling to -8F (-22C). A can of Pepsi Free (almost flavoured water, no sugar) can and will freeze and explode in the step of a van and scatter ice the length and width of the vehicle? I found spots all over the van for years.
