This has to be one of the smallest chapels in the country and is known as The Quarry Chapel of the United Reformed Church in Cam, Gloucestershire. It was built and founded in 1852 and I'm not sure that the congregation would have been that large.
It's interesting that although it had its first service 1852, there is no record that it was ever dedicated as a place of worship. This does cause one problem because a year later the Burial Act 1853 came into force, stating that no more burials would be permitted in it grounds.
In 2018 there was a conversation on whether the chapel should be closed due to financial problems and a lack of attendance. It must have been agreed to continue with funds raised and the chapel used for many more uses other than the religious services.
Donations saw the kitchen and toilets updated and it's now used for craft clubs, a Pop-up creative cafe and many more activities. Well done to all concerned. It also became well known as the first chapel in the whole area to agree to conduct same-sex marriages recently, good for the Minister the Rev Simon Helme.
Well I love this little chapel but would be concerned how many people it would hold, especially at funerals, the coffin would take up most of the room and then it would have to go somewhere else for burial.
Let’s not think of that, just keep smiling instead.
Very interesting narrative. And it is so good it is opened as a meeting and activities place.
I wonder if a coffin would get through that narrow door.
I love the look of this building! Would you allow me to draw from this?
Hello Heather! Would you allow our artsy gang to paint / draw from this? In a moment when I forgot to connect my brain to my fingers, I only asked permission for myself. I think that some of the gang members would enjoy this one as well.
I haven't given this a try yet. But it is on my 'to do' list

So, this entrance is not the main entrance... I see now.
