I settled down in front of my computer screen ready for the start of the big match between my team Forest Green Rovers and Mansfield Town. I had prepared the team sheet, opened my excel stats spread sheet, and was looking forward to the top of the table clash.
A couple of minutes before kick-off I logged on to the live match and heard Radio Gloucestershire and the match commentators in conversation. The main stand on the opposite side I could not be see, there were at least 1000 spectators in there. Either end I couldn't see with hundreds of more spectators behind the goals ready for the start.
The referee delayed kick-off by ten minutes hoping that the fog lifted, after the managers, referees and safety officer met in the middle, it was decided to give it a go. Who had the ball, who kicked it at the goal nobody knew, and after just 4 minutes it was paused for another ten minutes. Finally it was abandoned until another day.
Radio Glos. was having a discussion about the difference between Fog and mist, they came up with the official meanings. They then announced my answer over the radio which was. "Heather says fog is what the players get in their throats and can't call to each other, and mist is what happens when a player shots and it goes the wrong side of the post".
Get narrative. I guess American Football players just don't have any sense to play in good weather. I will say that I enjoy watching them play in a good heavy rain, muddy field and all.
