Cleopatra's needle

I thought that the Paris Cleopatra's Needle was the twin of the one on the Embankment in London, but Wikipedia tells me that the London one is the twin of the one in New York, and that the twin of the Paris one remains in Luxor. I also didn't know that this one in the Place de la Concorde is located on the spot where the guillotine that did for Marie Antoinette and Louis the 16th was sited.
Can you imagine being there when the guillotine
did for Marie Antoinette and Louis the 16th? Public executions were a public spectacle back then, entertainment for the masses..Thanks for the history...

Great symmetry in this trippy image.

I don't think I can have looked properly at the London one, so it's going to be a must next time I visit. What is the background?

Very cool. Is that a Ferris wheel in the background?

@jqf @houser934 Yes, there's a big Ferris wheel on the Place de la Concorde, I'll probably post a photo in the next few days.

Nice detail. Saw this in July, but didn't get close enough to see the hieroglyphics

I enjoyed the history lesson, so often we look and see but do not question.
