Driving home on Thursday, we passed through the village of Bugarach (176 inhabitants), so I stopped and took a pic of the mountain of the same name, thought it would make a good end-of-year photo. Maybe you have heard of it, it was quite famous in France and around the World right up until the 21st December 2012. That was when, according to ancient Mayan legend/Internet rumour (take your pick) the Apocalypse would happen, and a New Age colony of believers gathered here. They were convinced that Bugerach housed a colony of aliens, who would leave when the World ended, taking people from the surrounding area with them. They must have felt a bit depressed on the 22nd December - no meeting aliens, no space journey, and only two shopping days to buy Christmas presents and find a turkey. As ever, there were entrepreneurs there to take advantage. I particularly liked the vigneron who produced 'Cuveé Bugerach', motto "helps you converse with alien lifeforms'.
Great to see another piece of your corner of France and I think it is not only Cuvée Bugerach which 'helps you converse with alien lifeforms'. Trying not to be envious of your sun and blue sky! Happy 2017 - it will happen!
